Investing in the Future Workforce

At Sirois Tool, we’re always planning for the future. We constantly evaluate new technology in search of faster, smarter ways to get things done. Technology evolves at a rapid pace, and constantly taking advantage of it has helped us remain competitive for more than 60 years.

Our planning doesn’t stop with technology. We also look for the people we’ll need tomorrow, and CT’s schools are a great place to find them.

Sirois Tool was one of several manufacturers who participated in a career fair at Goodwin University in East Hartford in March. We met some very impressive students there, two even came to our plant for a tour. We plan to speak with them again after they finish the semester.

We were also impressed with the university’s curriculum for their manufacturing programs. Coursework for completion of a 2-year certificate in CNC Machining, Metrology and Manufacturing includes training in industry-leading CNC machining software platforms, like SolidWorks and Mastercam. Students learn mill, lathe and grinder setup and operation. They also study tool identification, setup, use and maintenance, as well as statistical process control (SPC).

Three of our current employees are students at Goodwin University, and two others are graduates. The high quality of their work reflects the excellent education they received.

We partner with other schools, too, and we offer promising students the opportunity to work with us while taking part in the Department of Labor’s Pre-Apprenticeship program followed by an Approved Apprenticeship program when they start working full time. Some of our employees have completed this program.

Incorporating the latest, best technology is just one piece of the manufacturing puzzle. Employing the best people to use it completes the picture.
